Apple, probably on advanced track to open branded stores in India

India's 220 million smartphone users offers an appealing market for Apple

Apple has filled an application before the Department of Industrial Policy an Promotion (DIPP) looking for approval to launch its branded retail stores in India.
Apple’s application comes after the Government of India recently eased the mandatory local procurement and online sales norms for single brand retail that allows exempt from the rule which mandates foreign single brand retailers to procure 30% of their product’s inputs locally if they qualify as a provider of cutting-edge technology for India.
With 220 million smartphone users and growing, of Apple’s growth in India is expected to come from new users or the first time buyers, points Counterpoint Technology Market Research firm.
