The Board of Directors of the Public Corporation RTVE (Spanish Radio and Television) elected yesterday Leopoldo Gonzalez-Echenique (State attorney at law) as President of the Board , after he had taken possession of his new position in a ceremony held in the morning at the Spanish Congress of Deputies (Parliament).<\/p>\n

He is the third highest responsible for RTVE elected by the Spanish Parliament. Echenique\u2019s appointment will put an end to the lack of situation in the State entity. A lack of government, which had turned almost unbearable, not only for the own corporation and its employees, but also for all the stakeholders, such as producers of audiovisual works, the advertisers interested in cultural sponsorship and the company\u2019s suppliers, among others.<\/p>\n

The appointment of Echenique solves the problem providing for a continued leadership for the State entity, but the election went forward in Parliament by an absolute majority, in the second round, thanks to the votes of PP and CiU (Cunvergencia i Uni\u00f3). Or what is the same, without the consensus between the PP and PSOE (Spanish Socialist Party), the major opposition party, something that would have been the most desirable.<\/p>\n

The CiU catalanist party got one representative in the Board of the Spanish State Television, in exchange for their support to the PP\u2019s candidate, whereas the PSOE only succeeds keeping one representative. Sky blue colored Board, which should ensure a seamless management of this company, but that does not necessarily ensure the plurality and neutrality of the communication approach to be adopted by these State media (Television, Radio and Internet) with a nationwide reach.
\nPrecisely because they are State media, they should keep in mind that they belong to all Spaniards, and, should, like a Caesar\u2019s wife, not just be honest, but also have a honest look.<\/p>\n

Two-thirds of the Council, in sky blue hue<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Gonz\u00e1lez-Echenique will preside over the Corporation RTVE and the Board of Directors of that company, integrated from now by nine members.
\nThose members are elected by the Parliament, according to the Royal Decree 15\/2012, dated April 20th, for the modification of the management regime of the Corporation RTVE. The management regime was embodied in the Law 17\/2006, dated June 5th, regulating the State-owned Spanish Radio and Television.<\/p>\n

The new Board of RTVE is composed by Leopoldo Gonzalez-Echenique, as President, plus the four councillors who were already part of this body: Rosario Lopez Miralles and Andr\u00e9s Martin Velasco, proposed by the PP; Miguel \u00c1ngel Sacaluga, proposed by the PSOE; and Teresa Aranguren Amezola, proposed by IU.<\/p>\n

They joined yesterday as new members of the Board: Marisa Ciriza, Fernando Navarrete Porta and Jos\u00e9 Manuel Pe\u00f1alosa (all proposed by the PP), in addition to Oscar Pierre Prats (proposed by CiU).
\nIn short, six of nine members of the Board have been appointed by proposal of the conservative and currently governing party, the PP (Popular Party -conservatives-).
\nOne might think that two thirds of the Board watch through a pair of glasses as as heaven blue colored as the PP logo is.<\/p>\n

Te\u00f3filo Jos\u00e9 Garc\u00eda, Manuel Ventero and Julio Somoano, the new managing team<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The well reputed journalist and radio proffessional, Manuel Ventero, takes now the spot as Director of RNE.
\nJulio Somoano (Director and presenter of Telemadrid\u2019s news program, Telenoticias 1) will be the new Director of news spaces at RTVE. Somoano is a professional with a great career that fully justifies this appointment, but it is also true that he comes from the directors team of Telemadrid, the Television of theAutonomous Community of Madrid, where the Popular Party (PP) holds the government since 2003 (more than ten years).<\/p>\n

On the proposal from Gonzalez-Echenique, the Board of Directors of the State Corporation has appointed Jose Theofilo Garcia Buend\u00eda as its Corporate Director He is agronomist, university head professor and brings with him an extensive experience in the management of public enterprises, never linked with the communications sector, though.
\nGarcia Buend\u00eda succeeds Jaime Gaiteiro as Director General and Manuel Ventero replaces Benigno Moreno at the head of RNE.

\nLeopoldo Gonzalez Echenique (CV)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Leopoldo Gonz\u00e1lez Echenique, new President of the Public Corporation RTVE, has a degree in Law and Economic Sciences from ICADE and belongs to the Spanish State Lawyers Pool.<\/p>\n

He has been assigned to the State Lawyers Services in Barcelona and to the Ministries of Interior and Economy and Finance.
\nEchenique has been Deputy Director of the Legal Services of the National Commission of the Stock Market and Director of the Technical Cabinet of the Undersecretary of Economy.<\/p>\n

He was appointed in 2002 Director General for the Development of the Information Society of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MCYT) replacing Borja Adsuara.<\/p>\n

The new President of the Public Entity RTVE has held the responsibility of Director in different entities, such as RED.es, Center for Industrial Technical Development (CDTI), AUDENASA, Banco Zaragozano and ENCE. He completed a Senior Business Management program at the IESE business school between 2005 and 2006.
\nEchenique served as general secretary of Barclays Bank, between 2003 and July 2008, the year in which he was appointed Secretary General of the NH Group.<\/p>\n

Member of The Royal Academy of Jurisprudence and Legislation, he has the Grand Cross of Civil Merit and in 2009 he was included in the \u2018Top 40 Iberian Lawyers under forty\u2019 list.<\/p>\n

\n<\/strong><\/span>
\nTe\u00f3filo Garcia Buend\u00eda, new Corporate Director General of RTVE, is an agricultural engineer by the Polytechnic University of Madrid, Doctor Agronomist at the University of Cordoba, and university professor. He has worked for a long time at the State Administration.<\/p>\n

He has been Director of the Polytechnic School of the University of Almeria and the Department of Rural Engineering. He also served as the Government Deputy Delegate in Jaen (1996-2000). He has developped for a long time his career in State companies. Within this field, he has held several positions such as: President and Chief Executive Officer in Foods and Oils S. A (June 2000-February 2003); Chairman and CEO of Coosur S. A. (June 2000-February 2003); Chairman CEO at Oleaginosas del Centro S. A (June 2000-February 2003); Chief Executive Officer of Compa\u00f1\u00eda Espa\u00f1ola del Tabaco en Rama S. A (October 2002-February 2003); Counselor of Agricultura y Ganader\u00eda SA Expasa (May 2003-October 2004); and CEO of Aguas de la Cuenca Sur S.A.<\/p>\n

Manuel Ventero (CV)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Manuel Ventero, the new Director of RNE,is a communications professional working at RTVE since 1985. Holding a Doctorate by the Rey Juan Carlos University in Madrid, he did a Master in Business Administration and a Bachelor Degree in Communication as well as a Social Graduate at the University of Salamanca. The new Director of RNE led the news services of the State broadcaster between July 2000 and May 2004 .<\/p>\n

In addition, he has been Territorial Director of RNE in Andalusia as well as the radio station in Seville between 1998 and 2000. He had led berfore RNE stations in Marbella (1991-1994), Almeria (1994-1996) and Granada (1996-1997). He started to work at RTVE through opposition exam in 1985. His professional career has been mainly developed in the radio, although he accounts with professional experience on both press and on television as political analyst.<\/p>\n

He is a professor at the Rey Juan Carlos University since 2004 and author of the books ‘The Christmas messages of the king’ (2011), ‘The sound of the Constitution. 25 Years of history’ (2004) and ‘testimonies around the Health and Safety at Work’ (1998). Ventero has been honored twice with the ‘Golden Antenna’ of the Spanish Federation of Associations of Radio and Television programs by the ‘Silhouettes’program at RNE (2009) and ‘The sound of the Constitution’ (2004). Since 2004 he conducts and presents the program of interviews ‘Silhouettes’, at Radio Nacional de Espa\u00f1a.<\/p>\n

Julio Somoano (CV)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Julio Somoano, new Director of news programs at RTVE, was born in Oviedo in 1976. Director and presenter of Telenoticias 1 broadcasted through Telemadrid. He started his professional career at RTVE, where he began his work as a journalist. In RNE, when ha was 26, he was the editor of the informatives at 6, 7 and 8. He directed and presented along five years the news of Telemadrid at 21.00h.Somoano has achieved degrees as Journalist (University of Navarra), philologist (University of Oviedo), an expert in English Studies (University of Portsmouth, United Kingdom), he holds a Master in Radio (Universidad Complutense , Madrid) and in management of the Political and Electoral Communication (Universidad Autonoma, Barcelona), is also a professor of information structure at hte CUV (Universidad Complutense), the Diplomatic School (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and the masters on radio and television at the Rey Juan Carlos and Francisco de Vitoria universdities. Julio Somoano has participated in several forums on the future of th State Televisions. He has written articles and columns, published around the world on Time, La Gaceta de los Negocios, Metro and Diario de Navarra.<\/p>\n

The new Director of news programs at RTVE has also published four books. Two in the political field: the first biography of Rubalcaba, el monje del poder (La Esfera de los Libros, 2011) and \u00bfQu\u00e9 le ha pasado a la Constitucion?, hablan los padres de la Carta magna (2003).<\/p>\n

Two other books complete his curricual as writer to date: Deslenguados (Temas de Hoy, 2011) y D\u00e1ndole a la lengua (2003), about the importance using the Spanish language in a correct manner, which is precisely the subjet on he wrote his Dortor’s Thesis.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
