\u2018The Seas Between Us\u2019, directed by Katharina Behrens, celebrates the city of Hamburg\u2019s world-famous culinary export in a 72 minute, historically accurate biopic.<\/p>\n
Though a number of different theories exist relating to its precise origins, the hamburger is believed by many to originate from Hamburg resident, Otto Kuase, circa 1869. That’s why Rustlers is releasing a feature length German arthouse film created by Droga5 London and production company Lief to mark the 150th anniversary of the hamburger. The Hamburger is played by renowned character actor Paul Fa\u00dfnacht, who starred in \u2018The Lives Of Others\u2019.<\/p>\n
\u2018The Seas Between Us\u2019 premiered in Berlin\u2019s famed Arthouse cinema Babylon Kino, before launching on Amazon Prime Video, as well as being supported by a broader social media campaign in Germany. The film has an original jazz score, which is also available to stream on Spotify.<\/p>\n
The Hamburger, is personified as a German immigrant on his deathbed recanting the story of how he set sail to America to make his fortune, to a documentary filmmaker.<\/p>\n
As he describes the odds he overcame, the narrative is intercut with an account from his son of the sorrow inflicted by his absent father. The film grapples with themes of hubris, the pitfalls of absent parenting and the ugliness of fame.<\/p>\n
Dan Morris at Droga5 London, says: \u201cThe process of creating from scratch a legitimate piece of arthouse cinema was daunting enough. Then we realised, to be true to the idea of the hamburger being created in Germany, the film also had to be in German. Which none of us spoke. Some might say that it was an insane thing to undertake. Those people have obviously never worked on Rustlers.\u00bb<\/p>\n
The entire screenplay was written by Frazer Price and Teddy Souter in English and then adapted into German by screenwriter Jan Eichberg. It was filmed in Cologne.<\/p>\n
