This investment is a vote of confidence in the strength of the European tech industry and the potential of European tech talent» . The announcement is to do with covering the needs for talent to create and develop the open metarverse vision of Facebook.

«As we begin the journey of bringing the metaverse to life, the need for highly specialized engineers is one of Facebook’s most pressing priorities» the press communication underscores.

The number of hires could be even higher

Clegg and Olivan let see that the number of employees to be recruited in Europe for the metaverse could be even higher if needed: «We look forward to working with governments across the EU to find the right people and the right markets to take this forward, as part of an upcoming recruitment drive across the region.»

Why Europe?

Clegg and Olivan gave three reasons why the bet on European talent is so strong:

1)World leading tech talent and companies.

2) Europe provides for a large consumer market that will be even grater once the Digital Single Market is completely rolled out.

3) Beyond emerging tech talent, the EU also has an important role to play in shaping the new rules of the Internet: «European policymakers are leading the way in helping to embed European values like free expression, privacy, transparency and the rights of individuals into the day-to-day workings of the internet. Facebook shares these values and we have taken considerable action over the years to uphold them. We hope to see the completion of the Digital Single Market to support Europe’s existing advantages, as well as stability on international data flows, which are essential to a flourishing digital economy,» the communication literally explains.

Is Facebook perhaps turning its eyes to Europe, now that the US Senate could show its lest pleasant face to the tech giant?. Frances Hauguen (former Facebook Whistleborwer) declared last tuesday before a US Senate panel that Facebook is aware its products harm people but they keep on offering them and asked The US lawmakers to intervene to solve the «crisis» that her former employer has created.

Towards a metaverse, not only ethical but open

Facebook considers the metaverse as the next computing platform. At its heart is the idea that by creating a greater sense of “virtual presence”, interacting online can become much closer to the experience of interacting in person. The metaverse has the potential to help unlock access to new creative, social and economic opportunities. And Europeans will be shaping it right from the start.
No one company will own and operate the metaverse. Like the internet, its key feature will be its openness and interoperability. Bringing this to life will take collaboration and cooperation across companies, developers, creators and policymakers. For Facebook, it will also require continued investment in product and tech talent, as well as growth across the business,» Clegg and Olivan explain in the communication.

The hire announccement for Europe is precisely framed into thes need for talent to develop the open metaverse, but some media and expers see in this announcement an attempt to bury the latest problems users had to access Facebook platforms last week due to technical problems the tech giant was responsible for.

Image over the headline.- Women working at Facebook.© Facebook.

Related Eastwind Marketing links:

Facebook announces $50 million investment to develop a “compatible” and “responsible” metaverse

And the number of employees to be recruited could be even higher, if needed, Nick Clegg and Javier Olivan let us see in their official communication

[10831,3
10856,12090,734,11747,12089,11974
