Sam Altman will depart as CEO at Open AI (the company developing Chat GPT) and leave the Board of Directors. Mira Murati, to date Chief Technology Officer at Open Ai and the Albanian software developper who has created ChatGPT, will serve as interim CEO. Her appointment is effective immediately.
Given her long tenure and close engagement with all aspects of the company, including her experience in AI governance and policy, the Board of the company believes she is uniquely qualified for the role and anticipates a seamless transition while it conducts a formal search for a permanent CEO.
As a part of Open Ai’s transition to move foreward and as as a resutl of the mentioned deliverative process, says the offical communication published today by the Board, Greg Brockman (co-creator of ChatGPTand co-founder of Open AI) will be stepping down as chairman of the board and will remain in his role at the company, reporting to the new CEO.
