The Office of UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, has announced first economic sanctions that the United Kingdom is applying immediately against some Russian banks and individuals of strategical importance fro the Kremlin.
UK Government announced as well that “will hold further sanctions at readiness, to be deployed alongside the US and the EU if the situation escalates further”.
The sanctions
The meassures will be applied against the following Russian banks and individuals:
a) The banks: Rossiya, IS Bank, General Bank, Promsvyazbank and the Black Sea Bank.
b) The individuals: Gennady Timchenko, Boris Rotemberg and Igor Rotenberg.
The sanctions are the following:
a) Any assets the mentioned banks and individuals hold in the UK will be frozen
b) The individuals concerned will be banned from travelling to the UK
c) The Government of the United Lingdom prohibit all UK individuals and entities dealing with the mentioned individuals and banks.
UK Government urges nationals in Ukarine leaving the country
Melinda Simmons (British Ambasador in Ukrine) updated just one hour ago the travel advice for britons currently inside Ukraine: “Russian troop numbers around Ukraine continue to grow. And last night recognition by Russia of the separatists so -called republics in Donbass and the further deployment of Russian troops there has increased tensions even more. Therefore, our travel advice remains that British nationals should leave now while commercial options are available. If the siyuation continues to escalate, then it’s likely that commercial routes out of Ukraine will be severely disrupted and road routes through Ukraine may be closed. So do please thaink about making plans to leave now. Johnson condemns Putin’s decission to recognise the independence of Donetsk and Lugansk
“Vladimir Putin has violated Ukrainian sovereignty and international law.
We will immediately institute a package of sanctions targeting Russian economic interests.
It’s absolutely vital that the conquest of a European country should not succeed and that Putin should fail,” UK Prime Minister said in a tweet iI include at the end of this post.
