3D VR video to be launched on Facebook

Lee McCabe (Global Head of Travel Strategy at Facebook) unveiled at the UNWTO Awards Forum 2016 that Facebook has plans to launch 3D VR videos on its social network.

He told us that this feature was currently under Beta test and that in some months will be launched, first  in the USA and then in other countries.

If finally launched, this would be another step into the video mobile first strategy Facebook is developing. Just on 3rd December 2015, the company announced the launch in the USA, under test, of live video and collages for a reduced amount of iPhone users.

Live lets Facebook users show the people theycare about what the user is seeing in real time. Sharin live video is easy, tapping on Update Status and then selecting the Live Video icon. The user can write a quick description and choose the audience that  want to share with before going live. During the broadcast, the user will see the number of live viewers, the names of friends who are tuning in, and a real-time stream of comments. When the user ends his/her broadcast, it will be saved on his/her Timeline like any other video, which then be deleted or kept for friends to watch later.

Users can also discover live videos from their friends and public figures they follow right in News Feed. While watching a live video, they can tap the Subscribe button to get notified the next time the broadcaster goes live.

With collage, the user can collect a group of photos and videos and share them all together.

At the UNWTTO Awards Forum McCabe also explained the stakeholders in the tourism sector how profitable may be for them thinking and carrying out strategies and actions in terms of “mobile first” technologies including geo location, direct texting, photo sharing and video sharing.
