In a large number of countries, people are unable to access many independent blogs and news sites, denying them their right to free information. And censorship is on the rise worldwide.
On the 12th of March, World day against censorship Reporters Without Borders Germany hand in hand with DDB Berlin created a digital loophole to evade censorship.The digital production company involved in this project is MediaMonks.
The Uncensored Playlist “profits” from the fact that while press freedom is not available in the worlds most oppressed societies global music streaming sites are.
Five well reputed independent journalists from five countries under strict government censorship teamed up with Musical Director Lucas Mayer to turn 10 articles that had previously been censored into 10 uncensored pop songs.
The journalists are: Prachatai (Thailand), Chang Ping (China), Basma Abdelaziz (Egypt), Galima Bukharbaeva (Uzbekistan) and Nguoi Buôn Gió (Vietnam).
These songs were then uploaded onto freely available music streaming sites, allowing these stories avoid censorship and be listened in the countries where they had once been forbidden.
The Uncensored Playlist is now streaming on Spotify, Apple Music and Deezer.
Reporters Without Borders encourages people to share The Uncensored Playlist through social networks under the hashtag #truthfindsaway.
