Super Mario Run, the first mobile bet for this character, registered over 10 million downloads and consumers spent over $4 million worldwide on December 15th, during the first day the iOS version of game was available for download at the Appstore.
Always following the data published by App Annie, Supermario Run became as well the top ranked game by downloads across 60 countries immediately after launch.
Nothing to do with the figures of Pokémon Go with 100 million downloads and still at the $10 million revenues level a day in some three weeks after its launch.
While Nintendo has opted for a one pay model, at a $9.99 price to unlock all the game features and levels. Pokémon GO is commercialised under a freemium model that allows ingame micro payments to unlock selected features and levels.
While the revenues are expected to concentrate in the first few days since launch in the case of Supermario, Pokémon’s chance to attract revenues extends some weeks after and on.
Surely something Nintendo should think about when chooosing a monetisation model for its mobile games.
Anyway those related to Super Mario are figures for the iOS versrsion of the game, while the Android one is still to be released. The level of downloads and revenues obtained by Pokémon GO come both from the iOS and Android versions.
On Super Mario Run
Super Mario Run is a platforms game, where Mario, the protagonist, runs automatically from left to right on the screen allowing a perfect controll of the character with one hand just tipping on the screen. Each tip makes Mario jump and a continued touch makes Mario jump higher. The base of the game is the same as in other games of the same series, where the player must make Mario jump over enemies, coins, and other fears he meets in his way. The objective is making Mario arrive sane and save in the least time as possible.
