Adam Mosseri, currently Vice President of Product at Instagram, has been promoted to Head of the company. The appointment is effective from today.
In his new position as Head of Instagram Mosseri will oversee all functions of the business and will recruit a new executive team including a head of engineering, head of product and head of operations.
Co-founders of Instagram, Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, announced last week they were leaving the company. Facebook acquired Instagram in April 2012 for $1Bn.
“Since we announced our departure, many people have asked us what we hope for the future of Instagram. To us, the most important thing is keeping our community, all of you, front and center in all that Instagram does. We believe that Adam will hold true to these values and that Instagram will continue to thrive,” say Systrom and Krieger in teh official communication announcing the appointment of Mosseri.
From Facebook to Instagram
Mosseri began his career as a designer, managed his own design consultancy, and then started to work as part of the Facebook design team in 2008.
Since he joined, he moved from design into product management, and spent time working on Mobile then News Feed and most recently, he was recruited for Instagram.
Second exit of founders in a row
Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger leave Instagram just some months after Whatsapp founder and CEO, Jan Koum, announced his exit from Whatsapp reportedly by disagreements with Facebook on data privacy and business model for the messaging app.
Whatsapp co-foundeer, Brian Acton, said in an interview recently published on Forbes that he left Facebook because he didn’t agree on how Facebook should monetize Whats App.
Facebook acquired Whatsapp in 2014 for $19Bn.
