Facebook turns full into Meta…verse

Today at Connect 2021, CEO Mark Zuckerberg introduced Meta, which brings together all Facebook apps and technologies under one new company brand.
Meta’s focus will be to bring the metaverse to life and help people connect, find communities and grow businesses.

“Right now, our brand is so tightly linked to one product that it can’t possibly represent everything that we’re doing today, let alone in the future. Over time, I hope that we are seen as a metaverse company, and I want to anchor our work and identity on what we’re building toward,” explains Zuckerberg on the reasons why the is change.

A change for a new nature of the business itself

Meta’s focus will be to bring the metaverse to life and help people connect, find communities and grow businesses.

The metaverse will feel like a hybrid of today’s online social experiences, sometimes expanded into three dimensions or projected into the physical world. It will let users share immersive experiences with other people even when they can’t be together and do things together they couldn’t do in the physical world. It’s the next evolution in a long line of social technologies, and it’s ushering in a new chapter for the company.

So key is the Metaverse for the business that Facebook’s (now Meta) annual Connect conference of the company explored what experiences in the metaverse could feel like over the next decade: From social connection, to entertainment, gaming, fitness, work, education and commerce.

The company also announced new tools to help people build for the metaverse, including Presence Platform, which will enable new mixed reality experiences on Quest 2, and a $150-million investment in immersive learning to train the next generation of creators. Facebook’s vision of the Metaverse includes a connection between physical and virtual worlds thet expand the chice to connecta and interact with friends and coleagues far beyond the virtual world.

Other applications (medicine, learning) were also disclosed as well a whole new horizon for TV programs on Quest. A new approach to the smart glasses as wella s other family of new devices developed by Facebook are also coming in next years.

Meta, because it means beyond

Zuckerberg’s company explains that they chose Meta because this word means beyond. And the company is set to go beyond in many ways, the Metaverse and what will come next.

“This next chapter is a future made by all of us that will take us beyond what digital connection makes possible today, beyond the constraints of screens, the limits of distance and even physics. For our company, Meta is a reminder that there is always more to build, says Facebook’s (now Meta) post on the new brand.

A symbol made to “live” in motion and 3D

The company designed this symbol to live in motion and 3D. Drawn from a single line in space using our their own Quest technology, the Meta symbol forms a continuous loop that works seamlessly between 2D and 3D contexts.

It is designed to be experienced from different perspectives and interacted with.

Sometimes it can resemble an M for “Meta,” and and sometimes an infinity sign, symbolizing infinite horizons in the metaverse.

Flexible, interactive and in many colors

The Meta symbol was designed to dynamically live in the metaverse where you can move through it and around it. It can take on infinite textures, colors and movement, capturing the creativity and imagination of a 3D world.

But Meta do not forget their origins: ” It was also important that the symbol take on a blue gradient and pull in the color of our core products, connecting our future to our company’s origins.”

Same typeface introduced in 2019

The Meta wordmark was designed to be simple and effective in a wide range of applications, from the smallest in-app use case to the immersive world of the metaverse itself. But the wordmark uses thesame company typeface that was introduced in 2019.
