The Deputy Director General of the Spaniard Advertising Self-Regulation Association, Charo Fernando Magarzo, has been elected as President of EASA during the virtual meeting of the Council of the European Advertising Standards Alliance held today, October 15. She succeeds Stéphane Martin, CEO of ARPP,in this responsibility.
EASA is a network comprising 28 national advertising self-regulatory bodies that apply the advertising codes of conduct of each of their countries. The Asociación de Autocontrol de la Publicidad is one of those self-regulatory bodies that is a member of the European Advertising Standards Alliance, specifically the one based in Spain.
The new President of EASA indicated that she will focus on the publicity of technological and digital developments, with a responsibility focused on aspects such as the protection of minors, sustainability, diversity and inclusion, transparency and privacy, as well as the harmonization of SR developments in a globalized world.
“The sustainability and success of EASA and SROs in the future requires that we be able to understand the changes that advertising is undergoing today,” he stressed.
Charo Fernando had already been Vice President of EASA for four years. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the European Digital Interactive Advertising Alliance (EDAA) and Director of the Board of Confidence Online (Seal of online trust in Spanish).
Fernando Magarzo has been a Doctor of Law and professor of Commercial Law at the Universidad Complutense of Madrid for 15 years. She is the author of numerous articles in magazines on Intellectual Property, Unfair Business Practices and Advertising Law.
Charo Fernando has participated in various forums and seminars and is a visiting professor in various Postgraduate and Master courses at the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), the Business Institute (IE), the University of Alicante (UA) and the University of León (ULE) .
