While some US citizens have taken the streets by assault protesting against Donald Trump’s election as the next President of the United States, the DMA -Data&Marketing Association, till October 2016 Direct Marketing Association- considers Trump’s win more as an opportunity than as a problem.
“An all-Republican lineup in the nation’s capital should present a much more business-friendly environment,” said Emmett O’Keefe. SVP of Advocacy at the DMA.
Further, the vast majority of pro-data and marketing lawmakers were re-elected, again, an actual advantage for the intersts of the industry members of the Association.
FCC’s more restrictive privacy rules will get under review
“Regarding legislation and regulation that specifically affects the data and marketing industry, there are indications that regulations adopted by the current Administration, including privacy rules passed last month by the Federal Communications Communication, will come under review in the next Congress.”
DMA strongly opposed the FCC’s decision to issue new rules regulating Internet Service Providers as it posed an unnecessary restriction on how data can be used responsibly to provide innovative services to consumers.
The privacy rules regulating Internet Service Providers discarded the regulatory framework that had been fostering growth of the Internet economy till that moment. The rules supporting much of the content and services consumers enjoy every day.
Voters disagree with democrats policy sets an opportunity for DMA
While many lawmakers were re-elected, O’Keefe noted that this election sent a clear message to Washington.
“Voters have said that Washington isn’t working and expressed frustration that nothing is getting done,” he said. “This sets the stage for lawmakers from both parties to work together on issues with bipartisan support. It also presents an opportunity for leading industry associations like DMA to bring forward viable policy solutions on such issues as national data breach legislation and efforts to encourage innovation in the data driven economy.”
A new pro business Government will open more oportunities for self regulation
“The beginning of a new Administration and Congress is a rich moment to educate lawmakers and their top aides on the data and marketing industry’s vast contributions to consumers, jobs growth and the U.S. economy when they are in a learning mode. It’s also an important opportunity to present our industry’s case about the virtues and effectiveness of industry self-regulation in supporting choice and transparency for consumers while fostering innovations that benefit consumers and grow our economy,” added O’Keefe.
Established in 1917, the DMA is the community aimed to support a deeper consumer engagement and business value through the innovative and responsible use of data-driven marketing. DMA’s membership is made up of today’s leading tech and data innovators, brand marketers, agencies, service providers and media companies, so that the Association represents the entire marketing ecosystem – from demand side to supply side
