Amazon GO launches first brick & mortar check out free smart grocery store in Seattle

Two years ago Amazon opened to the public its revolitionary Amazon Go supermarket  and in Eastwind told about it on Jannuary 2018. Now the digital retailer has just opened its first Amazon GO grocery store. It is located in the USA, at 610 E Pike Seattle, WA 98122. The concept is in fact the same as any Amazon GO, but offering fresh vegetables, meat, fish and seafood.

The first Amazon GO Grocery adds to the 25 Amazon Go stores already operating in the USA located in Chicago (8), new York (7), Sanfrancisco (5) and Seattle. The company has announced the opening of anothe Amazon Go in Seattle soon.

The same as in the other, Amazon’s baked  Just Walk Out technology automatically detects when the customer takes a product from the shelf and when it places it back tracking these actions in a virtual command list. When the customer finishes his/her purchase, theer’s nothing left to do but leaving the store. Shortly after leaving the point of sale, Amazon charges the purchase price on the customer’s account and sends a receipt to his/her smartphone.

The first Amazon GO Grocery store is open fom Sunday to Thursday from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm, as well as Fridays and Satrudays from 7:00 am to 12:00 am.

How to shop

All the customer needs is an Amazon account, the free Amazon Go app (Amazon Go Grocery and Amazon Go both use the Amazon Go app for entry), and a recent-generation iPhone or Android phone.

The Amazon Go app is available to download in the Apple App Store, Google Play, and Amazon Appstore.
The customer must scan the QR code from the app at the gate to enter the store, then can put the phone away as it is not needed any more to shop inside the shop.

The checkout-free shopping experience is made possible by the same array of technologies used in self-driving cars: computer vision, sensor fusion, and deep learning.

Just Walk Out Technology automatically detects when products are taken from or returned to the shelves and keeps track of them in a virtual cart. When the customer has done shopping, can just leave the store.

There’s the chance to go shopping with a group of friends or family the customer just must use the QR code in his/her Amazon Go app to scan at the gate before each person enters the shop, the customer must scan again for him/herselg to enter.

Everyone can then shop the store like normal. Any items taken off the shelf by family or friends who entered the store using your app will be added to your virtual cart. If they return any items back to the shelf while in the store, those items will be removed from your virtual cart.
