Besides, AlmapBBDO Sao Paulo -Brazil- took the special Lion to the Creative Agency of the Year and the reputed Marcello Serpa was honored with the Lion of St. Mark. Serpa had announced early this year that he gets retired.
WPP, headquartered in London, got for sixth year in a row the special Lion to the Creative Holding of the Year and Ogilvy & Mather the special recognition to the Creative Network of the Year again after the network had got this same Lion in 2016.
The Titanium Lion, Integrated Grand Prix , as well as the Film Craft Grand went to the States, and he US production company Tool USA was presented the Palme d’Or.
The Independent Agency of the Year Lion was also for the USA, Droga 5 New York took it.
Australia (71 Lions), Germany (63), New Zealand (57), France (55), Sweden (51), Japan (46) and Argentina (40) follow the top 3 countries by number of Lions cropped.
Spain and India roared 27 times each
Following the top 10 group they come a bunch of countries led by India and Spain ex aequo with 27 Lions each.
This 2nd group of winners includes 6 nations that cropped from 20 to 27 Lions at the Festival. Leaving aside Spain and India they arethe following: South Africa (25), Thailand (23), Bélgium (23) and The Nederlands (20).
The 27 Lions earned by Spain and India would place both countries a the 11th spot, but it is possible that India takes a better position than Spain in the official ranking attending to the quality of the Lions, the Asian country was presented with.
The top 10 countries grabbed the 73% of the Lions
From a total of 1360 Lions bestowed in 2016 the group of the top 10 winners got 991 (around the 73%), while the bunch led by India and Spain took just 145 (the 10.66%).
Look, that the US agencies and production companies alone grabbed around the 26% of the total Lions bestowed (354). The UK (164) got alone the 12.05%.
Cannes Lions will not publish any rankings by country or agencies before August. The official lists take into account not only the number of prizes but also the quality of the recognitions earned, so the final results may vary from the provided in this post, while already indicative.
